Marugame Castle (Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture) is a renowned stone castle also known as the Stone Castle.
Its stone walls are high, with four tiers leading up to the main enclosure, stretching over 60 meters from the base of the mountain to the summit.
The castle tower is approximately 15 meters high and has three floors and is one of only 12 remaining wooden castle towers in Japan.
Completed in 1660 (Manji 3), it is the oldest remaining wooden castle tower in Shikoku.
The castle is elaborately designed, with cleverly placed karahafu and chidorihafu gables, and a stone drop system and plain wooden latticework on the north side.
The castle was built by Ikoma Chikamasa (1597). Chikamasa, who was granted 170,000 koku of land in Sanuki, made Takamatsu Castle his main castle and built Marugame Castle as a secondary castle to control western Sanuki.
The kit features loose stone walls stacked according to the pattern on the backing, and the castle tower's chidorihafu and karahafu gables are faithfully reproduced in every detail.
