Product Introduction
Pit-Road 1/700 SPJ Series Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Escort Ship DE-261 Wakaba Plastic Model SPJ04
The DE-261 "Wakaba" is the only escort ship in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to operate a former Imperial Japanese Navy vessel.
Its predecessor, the Tachibana-class destroyer Nashi, was sunk in the Seto Inland Sea by an attack from American carrier-based aircraft in July 1945 (Showa 20).
After the war, it was salvaged in 1954 (Showa 29) and repairs were completed in May 1956 (Showa 31).
It was recommissioned as a patrol ship for the newly formed Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
Initially operated as an unarmed training ship, it was later refitted with twin 76mm guns and Hedgehog anti-submarine missile launchers.
In 1960 (Showa 35), the SPS-8B high-angle radar, the only equipment on a destroyer, was installed on the bridge, and the ship served as an experimental ship in the Practical Experimental Squadron (now the Development Squadron) until its decommissioning in 1971 (Showa 46).
