The 285 series 〈Sunrise Express〉 is a limited express sleeper train that appeared in 1998.
Between Tokyo and Okayama, a 14-car train is operated, combining seven cars of Sunrise Izumo (Tokyo to Izumo City) and seven cars of Sunrise Seto (Tokyo to Takamatsu).
Although the basic performance is the same, there are differences in body designation and underfloor equipment between JR West's 0 series and JR Tokai's 3000 series.
Renovations have been made since 2013, including the addition of pantographs and the expansion of customer door steps.
