Product Features: This product secures the reed of an alto saxophone. Unlike metal ligatures, it does not have a reed attached. It comes with a cap and is a popular saxophone ligature in a standard color.
Easier to use than metal ligatures: While metal ligatures often have thin areas where pressure is applied, they are less likely to break and offer greater stability. Since the mouthpiece is not attached, you can use this ligature without worry.
About tightening the ligature: There are two ways to tighten a ligature: Forward tightening and reverse tightening. Forward tightening places the weight on the reed, lowering the overall center of gravity of the sound and increasing stability. It tends to be more susceptible to changes in tone depending on how tightly you tighten it.
About reverse tightening the ligature: Reverse tightening is the opposite of forward tightening. The weight is placed on the mouthpiece, keeping the rail that contacts the reed consistent, but it also tends to produce better overtones above the midrange and provide better response.
