The EV-E301 series is a battery-powered electric train that was introduced in 2014.
This series is equipped with large-capacity storage batteries required for running, and in electrified sections the pantograph is raised to obtain power from the overhead lines to run and charge the storage batteries, and in non-electrified sections the pantograph is lowered to run on power from the storage batteries alone.
This same train runs from Utsunomiya to Karasuyama on the Karasuyama Line.
